Heritage Studies - Ethnobotany - OCSEAN Summer School Tartu 2024, August

The week of Ethnobotany took participants on an intensive journey of inquiry about human's relation to plants, how they are used and how to rigorously study the relationship without biases and preconceptions.

Dr Raivo Kalle and Prof Renata Sõukand led a week of exploring plants, workshops and field trip to get in touch with the field of ethnobotany. Many participants realized that in some respect they already have done fieldwork in ethnobotany, but got many tips and instructions about methodology for data collection and analyses.

The fieldtrip to Taevaskoja was modelling the situation where one has to collect data in the region where the languge is not know to the collector and everything about the plants and their usage has to be recorded meticulously.
